The article describes the synthesis of hybrid hydrogels with introduced hydrophilic silica particles and compares its thermal response rate with properties of aqueous PNIPAM solution and PNIPAM hydrogel. Obvious advantage of incorporated silica particles is proven quantitatively by modulated temperature DSC (MTDSC) and ex-situ gravimetrical measurements. It was proven earlier that silica-linked PNIPAM hybrid hydrogels are both thermo-responsive with high shrinkage rate, and mechanically stable.
